An adverb is one of the eight parts of speech. Keep reading to learn about how adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.

Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. Adverbs answer the question of how, why, when, where, how often, and how much.

Adverbs answer the questions of when? where? how? and to what degree?

The tourists are here!

When aliens dance, they dance slowly.

The sheep demand pizza often.

The Sasquatch carefully picked the flower.

The flamingo stood in the bay today.

Negative Adverbs

Words like not and the contraction n’t are considered adverbs.

The tourists did not return the bear’s greeting.

The sheep haven’t eaten pizza in hours.

Other negative words can function as adverbs as well.

The Sasquatch was nowhere in sight.

The bear has never eaten a tourist.
